Batman: The Animated Series had a profound impact on my childhood. Every Saturday, I would sit glued to the TV during Décode pas Bunny, eagerly waiting for a new episode to air. I was fascinated by the show’s unique atmosphere, its sleek yet dark and elegant aesthetic, all unfolding within a breathtaking Art Deco Gotham City. Inheriting the spirit of Tim Burton’s films, the series overflowed with creativity and constantly expanded the mythology of the Dark Knight through a gallery of now-iconic characters.

Among them was an eccentric young woman dressed in a harlequin costume. Introduced for the first time in episode 22, very little was initially known about her, apart from her obsessive attachment to the Joker. It wasn’t until episode 72 and the comic Mad Love that audiences discovered the origins of psychiatrist Harleen Quinzel, who fell in love with one of her own patients — a white-skinned, green-haired madman — and eventually became Harley Quinn.

As a huge fan of the series’ graphic style, I had dreamed for a very long time of combining the aesthetic of its characters with that of Fariboles figurines. And for this very first venture into the DC universe at Fariboles, Harley Quinn — undoubtedly one of the most memorable creations to emerge from the series — very quickly became the obvious choice.

I chose to portray her in a pose that reflects her mischievous, rebellious, and unpredictable personality, and set myself the perilous yet fascinating challenge of harmonizing the character’s curves and lines of movement. I spent an enormous amount of time refining her silhouette so that it would feel balanced and cohesive from every angle, constantly searching for the right equilibrium between dynamism, elegance, and fidelity to the original graphic style. An almost obsessive pursuit that, in the end, perhaps echoed the character’s own madness…
